Clare Connors

Perfomer and Innovator

Clare has performed and recorded across the world with diverse artists including David Byrne, Kraftwerk, Michael Nyman, Kate Bush,  John Lurie, Dagmar Kraus, the Pet Shop Boys, Spiritualised, Gavin Bryars and the Sonic Catering Band.

She is a powerful performer, recording artist, producer, writer and innovator, working in different musical mediums, from classical to pop, from techno to jazz, producing ground breaking work.

For many years she played with the Balanescu Quartet, changing the direction of their work to be more like a band than a string quartet.

“…Clare is a musical pioneer, bridging the gap between different musical genres.”

Reviews

It's neither classical nor pop but that extraordinary rarity - a true synthesis created with assurance.

New York News Day

Possessed sees Clare Connors arranging… with a breathtaking understanding. Ultimately the success of these renditions lies in her evident sympathy for the aesthetic of Kraftwerk’s appointed modern icons, the machine and the motorway.

Melody Maker

“Connors ‘takes’ Kraftwerk’s back catalogue , transforming automotive Teutonic pop into moody and sometimes chilling string arrangements…injecting flesh and blood, evoking warmth, passion and feeling where only industry and technology had previously  operated’’

NME

‘delightful!……metronomic elegance’

Melody Maker

At times it’s intensely beautiful, and never less than interesting.

Mojo

Clare Connors is best known as an ex member of the Balanescu Quartet, but she has a solo record out that is a great collaboration with The Sonic Catering Band. The combination of Connors's violin tones, long, limber and snaky, and the Caterers' electronical ditherage mixes together really well. Shimmering, ghostly, filled with both action and stillness, this is a lovely piece of work.

Wire

Perhaps you lent an ear to ‘Possessed’, the Balanescu Quartet’s debut album and marvelled at Connors’ string arrangements of Kraftwerk’s porto-techno classics, but now it’s Connors track ‘East’ that Impresses most.

New Musical Express

‘Mother’, which provides the album with its suspenseful and dignified ending, is a piece of overwhelming emotional power, subtly and beautifully constructed.
